What is Diabetes?
Diabetes is a disease that occurs when your blood glucose, also called blood sugar, is too high. Blood glucose is your main source of energy and comes from the food you eat. Insulin, a hormone made by the pancreas, helps glucose from food get into your cells to be used for energy. Sometimes your body doesn’t make enough—or any—insulin or doesn’t use insulin well. Glucose then stays in your blood and doesn’t reach your cells.
The most common types of diabetes are type 1, type 2, and gestational diabetes.
- Type—1 diabetes: diabetes occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and kills the beta cells of the pancreas.
- Type—2 diabetes: diabetes occurs when the body can’t properly use the insulin that is released (called insulin insensitivity) or does not make enough insulin.
Diabetes increases more than sweet food and fruit intake. For this, we can reduce it by avoiding some such food.
♣ Therefore, it's important to avoid eating food given below in diabetes.
- Consumption of sugar and sweet drinks leads to high risk of diabetes.
- Trans fats and oils survive eating food.
- Diabetes increases by eating white bread, pasta and rice.
- Avoid eating fruit-flavored yogurt.
- Do not eat sweet breakfast cereals.
- Do not drink flavored coffee.
- Avoid consumption of honey, avascular nuctor and maple syrup etc.
♣ First aid for type 1 and type 2 diabetes:—
Generally, metformin is the first medication prescribed for type 2 diabetes. It works by improving the sensitivity of your body tissues to insulin so that your body uses insulin more effectively. Metformin also lowers glucose production in the liver. Metformin may not lower blood sugar enough on its own.
